As puppies are born unable to see, hear or regulate their body temperature, they are reliant on their mom for all their needs and a place to snuggle into for warmth.

As puppies are born unable to see, hear or regulate their body temperature, they are reliant on their mum for all their needs and a place to snuggle into for warmth. During this first week, all their energy will be devoted to sleeping and feeding so that they gain weight and become strong.

Around halfway through a puppy’s second week of life, his or her eyes will start to open and while things will be a bit fuzzy, their sight will soon improve helping them to see the world around them. Around now a puppy’s hearing will start to improve – so far they have only been able to sense vibrations – they’ll be able to hear clearly by 2 ½ to three weeks of age.

Their front legs will now be able to support their weight making it easier to seek out their mum … and the next milk feed! At around seven days onwards, the pink nose colour that dogs such as yellow Labradors and golden retrievers are born with will begin to develop the darker pigmentation they have in later life.

Week three sees strengthening of both front and back legs and puppies at this stage are now able to fully support their own body. This means they’re able to explore their world and play begins in earnest! They’ll start by playing and investigating with their brothers and sisters and will be less reliant on their mum; no longer needing to seek her out to keep warm. In addition, this is the week where their sharp little puppy teeth start to appear which also means that it’s time to start weaning.

With all their senses now fully developed, puppies of this age will continue to learn through play. In addition, this is also a great time to start socializing them – introducing them to new things – such as people and sounds and getting used to being gently handled. This builds confidence and familiarity with experiences they’ll come across later in their life. It’s really important that periods of socialisation are appropriate to the age of the pup, are kept short and sweet and remain positive, so that the puppy remains confident rather than getting frightened or overwhelmed.

They are growing physically stronger and more coordinated and will engage in more play with their litter mates. Play is incredibly important part of their development, these interactions help them both physically develop and are their first opportunities to interact with other dogs.

At this stage, they are nearly fully weaned and get most of their nutrients from their food and require less milk from their mum. Mum may now be able to take some rest away from her puppies although she will still be able to provide an important role in shaping positive interactions with other dogs and grow their confidence with new experiences.

Puppies at this age are still keen to explore their world but from six weeks are already becoming more reserved about new experiences so it’s really important to support them and their exposure to new things appropriately.

As a guardian you will only pay for normal vet care when you are placed with a dog. You will receive a superior quality English Cream Golden Retriever for free in exchange for your investment in their care, safety, and happiness. We benefit because we know our dogs are loved and well cared for without the need or use of kennels. We also do not have to care for more dogs than we are comfortable within our own home. We maintain full breeding rights of the dog for a determined period of time while the dog or puppy lives permanently with the guardian family as their loving companion. Guardianship benefits all involved, and provides the best long term results for the dogs… being a cherished member or a loving family and forever home.

• Guardian will be required to feed Fromm Gold Adult food, that the breeder recommends.
• Guardian will be required to use OC Goldens Veterinarian in Oregon City, OR during the length of the contract.
• Guardian is responsible for all normal vet care that is not breeding related.
• Guardian will need to have a secure fenced yard and own your own home.
• Guardian will need to communicate with the breeder in a timely manner and send updates.
• Guardian will need to live with in 40 miles of Oregon City, OR and do not intend to move for 4 years.
• Guardian will need to keep the dog groomed properly, 4 times a year, and check with us if any major changes need to be made (this means outside of a normal Golden Retriever coat, i.e. shaving, etc).
• Guardian will need to basic train your puppy / adult
• Guardian will apply and pay for monthly heartworm (Interceptor Plus Brand), and flea, and tick medication (Frontline brand) as directed by Breeder.
• Guardian can not own any intact dogs so there are no mistakes.
• Guardian will be required to maintain pet insurance from Trupanion while dog is in OC Goldens breeding program.
• Plus the other requirements as listed in our Guardian Contract.

• OC Goldens Provides Guardian Family with a healthy dog at No Cost.
• OC Goldens retains breeding rights on dog for up to 4 litters max.
• OC Goldens is responsible for all breeding related expenses. This includes transportation to and from Guardian Family residence.
• OC Goldens will pay Guardian Family $1000.00 for every litter the dog has under contract.
• OC Goldens will provide Fromm Gold Puppy Food at the expense of OC Goldens to be fed only during the pregnancy.
• OC Goldens will provide Breeder's Edge Oxy Mate Prenatals to be given daily during pregnancy.
• OC Goldens will pay for the spay/neuter upon retirement.

Hailey is 2 years old and up to date on all vaccines. Before leaving, Hailey will have a full Health Certified Vet check. She is very sweet and loving. Hailey is available only to an approved home.

Laila is 2 years old and up to date on all vaccines. Before leaving, Leila will have a full Health Certified Vet check. Leila is a lovely girl gets along with other dogs and is friendly. She is very sweet and loving. Leila is available only to an approved home.
